Painting
My artwork celebrates nature as a font of creativity and pleasure, exploring picturesque and decorative themes drawn from classical sources and the baroque.
For me, the nature motifs of this aesthetic tradition, long crafted in diverse media like stucco, carved wood, marble, and fresco, highlight the shared creative spirit of art and nature, a dynamic interplay between material and form that inspires my approach to painting.
Indeed, I see the nature element in my paintings of landscape, still life, ornament, and allegory as a metaphor for artistic transformation, the shaping of gesso, pigment, and oil into clouds, foliage, fruit, and other emblems of the arcadian universe.
I work the surface of my canvas intuitively, as a sculptor models marble or clay, drawing forth evocative compositions, from memory or invention, with richly crafted surfaces in oil, resin, and varnish.
At the heart of my work is an artisanal respect for materials and the wonder of paintings power to conjure form across layers of color, allowing abstract and figurative elements to harmonize in unique creations.
I endeavor in my art to translate the lyrical and abstract poetry of nature onto canvas, expressing through paint the idyllic spirit of my aesthetic sensibility.
